IBEX 35 alcanza máximo de 13,500 enteros en mayo de 2008 tras aumentar 1.2%

IBEX 35 resumed its upward path today, after a slight drop in yesterday’s session, reaching the highest level since 2008, when it stood at 13,484.3 whole numbers, thanks to the 1.21% increase with which it closed the day.

Investors continued to await geopolitical developments stemming from decisions made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, particularly in terms of tariffs.

On this day, Trump announced that any country buying oil or gas from Venezuela will be required to pay a 25% tariff on any transaction made with Washington starting April 2nd.

On a European scale, it was reported that German business confidence improved in March for the third consecutive month, as reflected in the index prepared by the Institute for Economic Research (IFO), which rose to 86.7 points from 85.3 the previous month, the highest reading since July 2024.

Additionally, it was reported that Ukraine and Russia agreed with the United States on «safe navigation» in the Black Sea and «eliminating the use of force.»

In Spanish affairs, the General Council of Natury Shareholders supported a major highway project that the group will launch to improve «free flow,» as well as the reorganization of the board to comply with the principle of proportional representation of its shareholders and maintain an adequate number of independent advisors.

Meanwhile, Rovi expects to more than double its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) without research and development expenses.

In this context, the biggest gainers in the IBEX 35 were IAG (+3.34%), Caixabank (+2.68%), Solaria (+2.32%), BBVA (+2.32%), Fluidra (+2.31%), Naturgy (+2.24%), and Bankinter (+2.17%). On the downside were Rovi (-1.90%), Inditex (-1.21%), Grifols (-0.72%), and Cellnex (-0.18%).

Major European stock markets also closed with gains on Tuesday: Frankfurt rose by 1.13%; Paris, 1.08%; Milan, 1.06%; and London, 0.30%.

On the other hand, the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil, a benchmark for the European continent, was $72.78, a decrease of 0.30%, while Texas crude fell by 0.48% to $68.77.

In the currency market, the price of the euro against the dollar was 1.0807 «greenbacks,» 0.06% higher than the previous day, while in the debt market, the yield on the Spanish 10-year bond rose to 3.416% after adding nearly half a tenth, with the risk premium compared to the German bond at 63.0 basis points.
