La Xunta solicita fondos al gobierno y la oposición denuncia «matonismo»

The Altri Project in Palas de Rei (Lugo) took center stage on Tuesday after a parliamentary debate in Bronco, during the plenary session of the Chamber, with Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, addressing the European funds requested by the government for the connection with electricity projects in Portugal. Cellulose base.

In the context where Xunta recently gave environmental approval to the Altri Project, and amidst protests like the one held in Pobra (A Coruña) last Saturday with thousands of attendees and hindered ships of «Macrocellulose», Lorenzana intervened to discuss the 14 projects declared as strategic by Xunta, although the parliamentary debate focused on the controversial multinational factory.

The Minister spent a considerable portion of her speech reproaching BNG and PSDEG for «abandoning their industrial denial.» Brais Ruanova (BNG) criticized the «nervousness and bullying» and denounced that this is a «political project» of «crony capitalism» that «mortgages» the future of the country.

Ruanova accused PP of choosing «their thief» referring to Alberto Pazos Couños, instead of the industry spokesperson, Rubén Lorenzo. The parliamentary president, Miguel Santalices, requested the removal of the word «thief», which Ruanova refused, leading to an order to withdraw the statement.

In another part of the plenary, BNG’s Montse Prado criticized the «absolute power» of the parliamentary president, accusing him of trying to «intimidate» and «cut off interventions.» She questioned if Rubén Lorenzo was rewarded for every foolish remark, as he seemed to be constantly bothered. The vice president, Elena Candia (PP), intervened at this point.

The spokesperson for the Socialist group, Patricia Iglesias, criticized Lorenzana for referring to the demonstration in Pobra as «communism of the 21st century,» aligning it with «the most radical right» in a PP that «embraces» VOX. She highlighted the lack of financial support and energy connection from the central government for strategic projects.

Lorenzana highlighted the need for financial support and energy connections from the central government for these strategic projects to become a reality. Xunta has approved the Triskelion-of Forestry of the Atlantic project in Mugarardos for green methanol production, along with 13 other strategic projects involving a total investment of 2.201 million euros and 4,325 jobs.

The Minister also called for support to introduce changes in the industry and strategic autonomy bill, criticizing the «disastrous» management of PRETEL by the central government. He emphasized the need for better planning in energy projects and financial support for Galicia.

Overall, the debate focused on the future of industrial projects in Galicia, with different political parties expressing their concerns and perspectives. The controversy surrounding the Altri Project remains a key issue, with various stakeholders pushing for transparency and accountability in decision-making processes.
