The Aragon Health Department is monitoring the Primary Care Strike Day in Aragon with a 21.69% participation rate by 11:30 am. Meanwhile, the Cemsatse Doctor and the Medical Assistance Union are evaluating the strike monitoring, which has increased by over 95% in urban Zaragoza, rejecting the decree intended to reorganize continuous care in the Aragon capital.

Official data collected from health workers’ sign-in sheets show that out of 3,088 professionals who stopped their activity, 670 were on strike, none of whom were night shift workers. The majority of the protest was concentrated in Zaragoza, with 35.75% participation, 6.79% in Huesca, and 0.61% in Teruel.

The strike percentages were 32.94% in Sector I, 49.53% in Sector II, and 23.76% in Sector III.

According to Ana Castillo, the manager of the Aragon Health Service, these numbers reflect an «unequal» participation rate below 25%. She emphasized the willingness of the Health Department to improve healthcare services for Aragon residents and ensure that the highly skilled professionals in the region can carry out their work effectively.

The unions are adamant about the high turnout in urban Zaragoza, exceeding 95%. They criticize the rural focus of the strike monitoring, highlighting that the initial impact of the decree is on urban centers. The protesters were vocal with whistles, sirens, and chants like «Negotiate Banalo Go!».

Ana Castillo emphasized the need for reform to improve Primary Care and address long-standing issues raised by professionals and society. She pointed out the challenges of population growth, aging demographics, and increased healthcare demands in Zaragoza.

Pilar Borraz, the primary care director, acknowledged the uneven distribution of strike participation across provinces, especially noting minimal involvement in Huesca and Teruel.

The Health Department and the strike committee plan to meet for the fourth time with a commitment to dialogue and constructive engagement. Despite expressing readiness to negotiate over the weekend, no contact has been made.

Fasaamet President Leandro Catalán expressed concerns about the diminishing time for negotiations and urged for progress towards a possible agreement. Both parties are optimistic about reaching a resolution, although details of the negotiation progress remain undisclosed.

The unions continue to push for the suspension of the decree implementation and the establishment of a consensus-driven management plan for continuous care in health centers. They emphasize the importance of respecting voluntary decisions of healthcare workers in any proposed changes.

Leandro Catalán reiterated the need for a collaborative approach to address the challenges in primary care, emphasizing the preservation of existing work conditions for staff members.

The parties remain hopeful for a successful agreement and are committed to ongoing negotiations to address the issues raised during the strike.
