EMT Madrid anuncia subasta para renovar el teleférico por 31.9 millones

EMT Madrid, the municipal transport company, has just launched an offer that will involve the total renovation of the Madrid cable car. Through an open procedure, EMT Madrid will provide the drafting of the execution project of visas, as well as the execution of the works to reform the service as a whole, that is, its system and elements and the terminals of Paseo del Pintor Rosales and Casa Campo.
The contract has an estimated value of 31,994,975 euros, and the basic auction budget reaches 36,870,400 euros. The first phase, the drafting of the execution project, has a budget of 690,703 euros, and the second phase, the execution of the work, would reach 29,780,701 euros, of which almost half would be destined for the electromechanical installation.
The project has a contract execution period of 26 months from its formalization: 14 months for the project and the execution of the works and another 12 months, after the completion of the works, which consider the start, monitoring, and the first annual review by the manufacturer.
As Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, announced last year, the total renovation of the cable car is the solution that the local council found to the state in which the installation is due to the temporary wear since its opening in 1969, which caused the suspension of service and its closure in 2022, after 2022.
With this project, EMT Madrid will turn the cable car into an innovative, durable, and accessible infrastructure. The stations will be refurbished, all cabins will be replaced, and a new technological system will be installed to make it an attractive and modern tourist attraction.
The renovation and technology change will allow them to provide fully automatic and safe operation, with high capacity, ensuring universal accessibility and turning it into an environmentally friendly means of transport, with clean energy as a source of low noise and emissions.
Historical Infrastructure
The Madrid cable car was inaugurated in June 1969 by the then Mayor of the city, Carlos Arias Navarro. With the technical guidelines of the Swiss company von Roll and under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works, the works began in mid-1968 and were completed in a year with an initial investment of 100 million pan.
The cable was designed with a length of 2,500 meters and two stations, the motor terminal in Paseo del Pintor Rosales and the voltage terminal in Cerro Garabititas, located in Casa de Campo. The 11-minute journey takes place 40 meters above the ground, ensuring one of the best views of Madrid. /
