Las máquinas de construcción están comenzando a desaparecer en todo el mundo

Something strange is happening with Construction Machinery. The concept I had in relation to it is starting to change worldwide. To prepare the ground and build a structure in a specific location, construction companies use various vehicles. Each one covers its own task to erect buildings embedded in previous plans.

Their respective operators are responsible for using the vehicle to complete any necessary work. Vehicles intended for construction are specially prepared to be used in various tasks to complete before, during, and after construction. They are also known as construction equipment, as we mentioned in the title.

However, this term is generally used to cover a broader spectrum. It can also include vehicles that are not considered vehicles. To consider a part as a vehicle, the car must be able to mobilize people or loads.

Goodbye to construction equipment as we knew it

In light of this premise, we come to the real news that concerns us: Construction Machinery is changing drastically. What I thought we knew so far has disappeared after the merger of LG Energy and Doosan Bobcat.

Together, the companies intend to create battery packs for the implementation of construction equipment. LG Energy Solution Ltd., the third-largest battery producer in the world, and Doosan Bobcat Inc., a global machinery manufacturer in the sector, recently made the announcement.

Their goal is to develop battery packs that will be used in compact equipment. LG Energy and Doosan Bobcat intend to obtain standardized battery packs that can be adopted in various construction equipment, such as compactors and excavators.

Both companies are eager to explore new possibilities to expand this alliance to electrify other products, such as earth maintenance equipment (e.g., tractors). Their proposal breaks ground as a milestone in the industry, surprising as much as the foreskin used in biomass.

Diversification of construction machinery: this is the roadmap

«We will standardize battery packs for compact construction equipment and provide solutions for key markets like North America,» appreciated the strategy director and executive of Doosan Bobcat, Park Hyunk through the statement.

The partners’ focus is to connect the cylindrical batteries of LG Energy with the flagship construction equipment of Doosan Bobcat. LG Energy, the leading battery manufacturer in South Korea, actively diversifies its product catalog.

At the same time, the global electric models industry is slow. The company aims to establish a lasting battery context in still emerging sectors, especially in new industries such as urban air mobility (UAM) and ships.

«We remain deeply committed to leading the challenge of electrifying various industries,» stated Oh Yooseong, Senior Vice President and Chief of Mobility and Battery IT at LG Energy.

Construction has a new goal: electrifying supply

Doosan Bobcat has an advantage because they already create their own battery packs, which are directly linked to the performance of electrified equipment. The company, owned by the Doosan Group, partnered with Cosmx, a global lithium battery company, in 2023.

This was done to create batteries that have shown greater stability and performance. Still, Doosan Bobcat introduced electric lift trucks with batteries, starting from the second half of 2024.

Something strange is happening to construction machinery. It will now be electric and much more efficient than what we have seen so far. An overwhelming context that we can compare with what happens with this type of committed construction.
