Galicia is facing a Holy Week of Adverse Weather Predictions, which will make it difficult for visitors to the autonomous community with the most coastline to enjoy its beaches, but, even though it may rain, the religious events remain something to look forward to.
Key points with the international badge of tourist interest, Ferrol (A Coruña) and Viveiro (Lugo), concentrate the most massive flows of participants, but there are other curious and less known holidays that showcase the religious tradition of the community in a different way.
Stations of the Cross in a Valo
The parish of Santo Tomé, in the municipality of Valadoura (Lugo), will witness this on Holy Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. A living representation of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. An event that attracts locals and visitors year after year, with over a hundred participants.
The Stations of the Cross will involve about a week of participants, who will portray the main characters of the story of Christ, such as Pontius Pilate, Saint Veronica, or Mary Magdalene. Along the route, up to fourteen prayer stations will be set up, where believers can pay tribute to Jesus.
During the procession, organized by the Youth Association, participants dressed in period clothing will enact passages like the crucifixion, the adoration of the Virgin, or the Resurrection.
