Visita de Páramo y el alcalde de Maribor a Valdemingómez
Páramo and the mayor of the Slovenian city of Maribor with the entourage accompanying him on the visit to the Valdemingómez Technology Park
The delegate councilor for Cleaning and Green Areas, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, received a delegation from the Slovenian city of Maribor at the facilities of the Valdemingómez Technology Park (PTV), led by Mayor Aleksander Saša and his ministerial advisor, Amerisa Kurbegović.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about how waste management is carried out in the city of Madrid, as an example of best practices for compliance with European environmental regulations. During the meeting, the mayor of Maribor showed interest in the biomethanization plants and the energy recovery plant.
Example of promoting the circular economy
Martínez Páramo explained to the Slovenian delegation that in 2023, 1.2 million tons of waste were treated at the PTV, which is equivalent to 3,300 tons per day. He also highlighted the progress Madrid is making in the concept of «circularity» of the economy and greater sustainability, within the framework of the Waste Strategy:
· Recovery of 77,289 tons of recyclable materials (plastics, cans, boxes, paperboard, glass…);
· Production of biofuels: 36,867,923 m3 of biogas and 155,673 MWh of biomethane injected into the gas network. With this amount of biomethane, more than 30,542 households or 479 buses from the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid could be supplied.
· The production of 243,799 MWh of renewable electricity through the valorization of waste from material separation and valorization processes. The generated electricity would be enough to power approximately 76,187 homes in a year.
