Villarreal, Rayo, Valladolid y Alavés avanzan en Copa del Rey.
Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Real Valladolid, and Deportivo Alavés led their first-round matches of the Copa del Rey 2024-25 on Tuesday by defeating Poblense (1-6), Villamuriel (0-5), Astur (1-4), and Compostela (0-1).
In the Nou Camp de sa Pobla, where the locals played a cup match 47 years later, Marcelino García Toral’s team sealed the game in the first half, with Ramón Terrats scoring the opener and Ayoze Pérez netting a hat-trick, along with Pau Cabanes adding another goal. After halftime, Pape Gueye extended the lead and Aitor Pons scored for the Balearic side.
The Rayo match also ended in victory at the Estadio Municipal Rafael Vázquez Sedano in Villamuriel de Cerrato (Palencia), where Etienne Eto’o, son of the legendary Samuel Eto’o, made his debut with the Rayo first team (0-5). The Senegalese forward scored one of the five goals for Iñigo Pérez’s team, with Raúl de Tomás scoring twice and Óscar Trejo and Sergi Guardiola joining the party.
Real Valladolid, on the other hand, defeated Astur at the Hermanos Llana stadium in Oviedo (1-4). Juanmi Latasa and an own goal from Oviedo allowed Pucellanos to go up 0-2 at halftime. After the break, Robi pulled one back, but Kike Pérez and Víctor Meseguer cleared any doubts.
Deportivo Alavés had a harder time eliminating Compostela at the Vero Boquete stadium in San Lázaro (0-1), where they prevailed thanks to a goal from local defender Kike Vidal.
In addition, Real Racing Club de Santander struggled to beat Lanzarote in a tight match (3-4), while Real Zaragoza defeated L’Hospitalet (1-5). Cádiz, on the other hand, knocked out Real Jaén (0-3), as did Ourense against Guijuelo (1-2).
