Valpharma gana el llamado de Invitalia por Green y recibe 2.5 millones de euros para sostenibilidad.

Valpharma International, a pharmaceutical company within the Valpharma Group based in Pennabullli, has emerged as the winner of the Invitalia call for Green initiatives, securing a grant of 2.5 million euros to invest in sustainability. The «Valpharma Green» project, aimed at energy transition, was initiated in 2023 with the submission of the proposal to Invitalia. This project is expected to significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint over the course of 3 years, resulting in a reduction of approximately 40% with 1,400 tons of CO2 emissions saved. The financial savings are estimated to be around 1.2 million euros, while wastewater is projected to be reduced by 95%.
«We are extremely proud of this achievement, as it reflects our concrete commitment to sustainability. In light of this success, we have also decided to establish a dedicated department for this purpose. The concept of ecological economy is becoming increasingly vital for pharmaceutical companies if they wish to remain competitive in today’s landscape,» emphasized Alessia, the president of Valpharma Group.
Looking ahead to 2025, the company plans to expand its photovoltaic capacity from 250 to 1450 kW, covering an additional 3,800 square meters. Part of the grant received will be invested in setting up a new 3,800 square meter solar field adjacent to the Pennabilli headquarters. This expansion is expected to generate significant solar energy by 2025, equivalent to 1,400 tons of CO2 emissions saved, as stated by Gionata Nori, Energy and Engineering Manager at Valpharma.
As the energy production surpasses consumption levels, a heat pump will be utilized to support room conditioning and boiler operations. Structural upgrades include the replacement of existing boilers with more efficient models and the installation of modern magnetic levitation electric groups to replace outdated refrigeration systems. The new waste treatment station is anticipated to achieve a 95% water recovery rate.
Furthermore, the construction of a new waste processing facility will focus on recycling waste generated primarily from the Pennabilei plant. Through an innovative evaporation system, this facility is set to recover up to 95% of the water used in the production process.
In conclusion, Valpharma’s commitment to sustainability through the «Valpharma Green» project showcases their dedication to environmental responsibility and innovation within the pharmaceutical industry. This initiative not only reduces carbon emissions and waste but also leads to significant cost savings and operational efficiencies. By staying true to their core values, Valpharma continues to set a benchmark for sustainable practices in the pharmaceutical sector. In 2025, photovoltaics will go from 250 to 1450 kW of products with another 3,800 square meters. Part of the contribution obtained will be invested in the creation of a new 3,800 square meter photovoltaic field, adjacent to the Pennabilli headquarters, which, at maximum speed, will already see a solar energy of 1,400 tonnes in 2025,» says Gionata Nori, Energy and Engineering Manager at Valpharma. «When the energy produced exceeds consumption – he adds – a heat pump will allow us to use it for room conditioning and support the boilers.» Among the planned structural interventions is also the replacement of all boiler equipment with 5 times more efficient boilers and a heat pump. We will then switch from the old refrigerator units to the new electric units with magnetic levitation, which are much more modern and efficient. The new waste treatment plant: 95% water recovery. Significant results are also expected from the construction of the new factory for waste treatments, mainly derived from the production of the Pennabilli facility, which, thanks to an evaporation system, will allow for the recovery of 95% of water.
