Snam presenta plan de transición hacia Net Zero en 2050
Snam revealed its first Transition Plan, a clear roadmap that defines sustainability goals for 2050. This plan, presented by President Mónica de Virgilii and CEO Stefano Venier, aims to support the group’s energy transition and the decarbonization of the country.
The objectives of the transition plan
The plan, approved by the Board of Directors, demonstrates Snam’s commitment to decarbonization and biodiversity protection. It will be periodically updated to reflect changes in the energy system and technological advancements.
Stefano Venier said: «This plan provides a comprehensive set of initiatives and KPIs to support a credible transition towards Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Snam aspires to a sustainable way, with a positive impact on nature, accompanied by an increasing proportion of sustainable finances.»
Strategy for net zero
Snam has established a roadmap in line with Italian and European energy scenarios, based on the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2024 and other long-term projections. The ultimate goal is to expand operations by 2050 while maintaining the resilience of the business model.
A key part of the strategy is the reduction of CO2 emissions. Since 2022, Snam has reduced emissions by 10% and plans for additional reductions of up to 50% by 2032. Methane emissions will also be reduced, with ambitious targets already set for 2032.
Investments and sustainability
Snam planned investments of 26 billion euros in the period 2023-2032. These funds will support the maintenance of existing assets and the evolution of the energy system towards a multimolecular model. Key projects include the extension of the H2 pipeline and the Ravenna CCS project.
Sustainable financing will be a pillar of the strategy, with the goal of increasing the proportion of sustainable financing to 85% by 2027. Over 50% of these funds will be linked to emission reduction KPIs.
Biodiversity and commitment to nature
The Snam Plan includes a strong commitment to biodiversity, aiming to achieve Net Zero Conversion this year and generate a positive impact on nature by 2027. Restoring vegetation and landscapes will be one of the key actions.
