Rematar no justificará recortes en servicios públicos, no lo permitiremos

The Secretary General of Podemos, Ione Belarra, stated that they will continue to firmly reject the increase in military spending by the Spanish government because «rearmament, war, will be an excuse for cuts in our public services, but we cannot allow it to happen.»
This position will be upheld by Podemos, even if they stand alone: «This political force must stand up and make it very clear that our country is not at war and that it is not a damn banner, it is a peaceful spirit of our people. And we will say it loud and clear, no matter the cost,» she said.
She also accused the government of «lies and deceit» for ensuring that this increase in defense spending would not impact public services: «Where will this increase of 16,000 million in three years come from if there are no new budgets?»
Belarra also expressed suspicions about the government’s intention to «usurp» this debate for the citizens, stating that they will be radical in their stance towards both institutions and, of course, in the streets.
The leader of the purple party participated in an event on Saturday in Zaragoza with the Aragonese militants, accompanied by members from Navarra and Soria, as part of the route before the «fifth meeting of the purple training.» Participants sent a message of encouragement to strengthen their comrades at a time when «the world, Europe, and Spain need a leftist pacifist, an ethical left that does not allow itself to be dragged by the prevailing media.»
Regarding the «consensus,» Belarra expressed concern about Pedro Sánchez’s «catastrophic and suicidal» decisions, suggesting that his focus on an arms race will not lead to world peace but rather to managing international conflicts.
Belarra defended a strategy that is against the «spirit» of the country, which is «anti-war» and part of its «DNA,» emphasizing that weapons do not contribute to peace but rather fuel violence.
She advocated for an immediate halt to the arms race and for listening to those who seek peace and international relations based on dialogue, mediation, and diplomatic conflict resolution.
The Secretary General of the Left brought a message of hope to the capital Aagagés to experience a «peaceful assembly,» unlike the previous four, to contemplate where they want to be in more than ten years. She called for input from the grassroots, led by Pilar Gimeno, focusing on the fight for democratic memory and the party’s technical team.
Belarra acknowledged that they had achieved what seemed impossible despite facing judicial and media challenges, attributing it to an «state operation» aimed at replacing Podemos with a more compliant and friendly political space.
She asserted that they had successfully resisted this offensive and had stood up to it.
Pilar Gimeno expressed gratitude for the presence of many media outlets and highlighted the active involvement of Aragón’s militants, despite facing challenges.
In response to questions about the situation in Podemos Aragón, Belarra referred to the ongoing restructuring process as a step towards building a project in Aragón. When asked about the relationship with the only Podemos representative in the Aragón courts, Andoni Corrales, Belarra simply described their relationship as «excellent,» emphasizing the importance of focusing on policy issues.
