Mejora el empleo en Rioja durante la Semana Santa con 735 contratos, un 6.5% más que en 2024

En Rioja, despite being the region with the lowest labor force participation in Spain, it will experience one of the largest internal increases in employment during Holy Week, according to Randstad’s forecasts. It is expected that 735 contracts will be signed, representing a 6.5% increase compared to the previous year.

Although its employment volume represents only 0.58% of the national total, the significant growth confirms the dynamism of the labor market in Rioja during this campaign.

«The Holy Week campaign is positive for La Rioja. With 735 planned hirings, the community strengthens its position in key sectors such as hospitality, which is reinforced by rural and gastronomic tourism. This behavior reflects that Rioja continues to consolidate economic and commercial activity, which also translates into new job opportunities for the local workforce,» says Jesé Méndez, the Regional Director of Randstad.

According to national trends, hospitality will lead employment in La Rioja, driven by tourist influx during Holy Week. This situation results in an increased demand for highly available personnel.

Specifically, the most sought-after profiles are room and bar waiters, chefs and kitchen assistants, room cleaning and maintenance staff, hotel receptionists with foreign language skills, and room leaders with team management experience.

Additionally, Maître and Sommelier profiles are relevant in high-end establishments, while in fast-food establishments, customer service staff are also in demand. On the other hand, demand for hotel administration staff, such as reservation coordinators, is also increasing to provide optimal services to customers and ensure operational management.

Specifically, by 2025, 108,025 contracts will be closed nationwide (6.1% more than the previous year’s 101,810), representing over 85% of the total weight.

In addition to the hospitality sector, the transport and logistics sector will play a significant role in La Rioja, with a projected employment increase in response to the movement of passengers and goods. Specifically, 9,745 new jobs will be generated in Spain, a 2.4% increase from 2024 when 9,520 companies were created, representing almost 8% of the total.

Among the most sought-after positions are truck and public service drivers for product distribution in tourist destinations, as well as tourist buses and private transport vehicles. Warehouse operators and goods loading and unloading staff are essential to manage the large volume of goods, while logistics and route planners become essential to optimize delivery times and operational efficiency.

Furthermore, the entertainment sector will generate 8,490 contracts nationwide, a 2.8% increase from the previous year’s 8,260 contracts. This sector accounts for over 6% of the total vacancies for 2025. The most sought-after profiles are tourist animators, monitors, and event coordinators, especially in coastal destinations and high tourist flow areas. In addition, skills in teamwork, customer service, and digital tools for administrative and programming activities are valued.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that companies require profiles with proficiency in certain technological tools. Not only because many jobs require the use of platforms or applications specific to their sector, but also due to the significant increase in digitization even in more basic positions.

In the regional analysis, the four autonomous communities that will generate the most contracts are Andalusia (24,370), Catalonia (18,850), the Community of Madrid (16,570), and the Valencian Community (12,675). These four regions monopolize six out of every ten contracts, accounting for 59% of the total.

Comparing behavior to the previous year, Rioja is the third region with the Balearic Islands (6,560 contracts) showing the highest growth (+6.5%). It only surpasses the Canary Islands, which see a 12.5% increase, reaching 8,255 contracts in 2025, and the Community of Madrid, which records a 7.3% increase with 16,570 contracts. Following Rioja is Galicia, with a 6.4% increase (7,020), and Catalonia, with a 6.0% increase, reaching 18,850 contracts in 2025.

On the other hand, Castilla-La Mancha is the only autonomous community experiencing a slight setback, registering a marginal decrease of 0.1% compared to the previous year, totaling 4,770 contracts.

Regions experiencing moderate growth include Extremadura, which will close 2,390 contracts (+1.5%); Cantabria, with 2,020 contracts; and Castilla y León, with 5,490 contracts, both increasing by 2.0%; and Asturias, with 2,220 companies (+2.8%). These autonomous communities show a similar dynamism to the previous year, with moderate growth as typical destinations for internal and more family-oriented tourism.

In parallel, the Valencian Community increases by 3.6% compared to the previous year, followed by Aragon, with 3,645 contracts, showing a 4.7% increase; and finally, in the +5-6% range, we find Navarra, the Basque Country, Murcia, and the Andalusia region.
