Almeida at the Global Mobility Call congress
The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, participated this morning in the Global Mobility Call sustainable mobility congress, an annual event held at IFEMA to promote collaboration between companies and generate public-private partnerships in the development of new mobility. In this context, he announced that the capital continues to progress in one of its major city projects: the implementation of the Southwest Green Walk, whose first phase of construction, which includes undergrounding from Portugal to Avenida Padre Piquer, began in October last year. 11.
As revealed by Almeida, this Tuesday, November 19, the Madrid City Council has published the commission to draft the preliminary project of the second phase, related to the development of Operation Camp, which will involve covering the highway between Avenida del Padre Piquer and Aviación Avenue.
This second phase of the A-5 undergrounding will continue the first phase, extending the tunnel by two kilometers, reaching 3.2 kilometers. The estimated value of the contract based on the framework agreement is 918,000 euros (excluding VAT). The contractor has 12 months to draft it.
Almeida pointed out that the commitment to expand the A-5 undergrounding is being fulfilled, which will transform mobility and life in the south of Madrid in the first phase, creating 80,000 square meters of green areas and lanes exclusively reserved for public buses.
The mayor emphasized that these mobility policies should be the hallmark of the capital, so that it becomes «the best city to live in, because then it will be the best city to reach.» The Southwest Green Walk will transform the city, life, and mobility in the southwest of the capital to make it more friendly, sustainable, and enabling.
