Sanz visits a LINCE unit of SAMUR-PC near Plaza de España

The deputy mayor and delegate for Security and Emergency Situations, Inma Sanz, went to Plaza de España this morning to meet with the SAMUR-Protección Civil volunteers who serve in the «Lynx Teams,» a unit that celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023.

Sanz emphasized that the work of this group is «essential, as they provide rapid and agile first aid in the parks of large cities, in the most central streets, and at major events with large crowds, when they are on bicycles.» This allows them to move through areas where four-wheeled vehicles cannot or do so with greater difficulty and slowness, with a response time of less than four minutes. Thanks to the work done in these years, «today I share experiences with other national and international teams,» said the delegate for Security and Emergency Situations.

The «Lynx Teams,» currently made up of almost 70 members, all volunteers from Civil Protection, have the necessary resources to treat minor injuries, but also to initiate medical care in severe cases such as cardiac arrest or stroke, increasing the chances of survival and recovery. In their bags, which weigh more than 25 kilograms, they carry material for the treatment and immobilization of traumatized patients, oxygen, and a semi-automatic defibrillator, among other things.

Their areas of operation are mainly Casa de Campo, Retiro, and Madrid Río, although they also provide support at scheduled events such as popular races and events with large crowds such as the Three Kings Parade or the celebrated Fiesta de la Paloma.

In addition, these teams, like SAMUR-Protección Civil cars and ambulances, are geolocated in real time, making it easier for the Communications Center to assign alerts to those who can arrive with a shorter response time than other operational units, and, if necessary, guide them to the point where the claimant is located, which is particularly important in places with more difficult geographical references such as Casa de Campo.

Sanz thanked the «vocation and passion for work» of this unit, as well as all the workers of SAMUR-Protección Civil.
