La producción industrial en Galicia aumenta un 1.1% en promedio en 2024.

The general index of industrial production (IPI) increased by an average of 1.1% in 2024 in Galicia, following a decrease of 1.5% per year at the end of the year, as reported by the National Statistics Institute (NE) on Friday.
Compared to November, industrial production in the Galician community has experienced a significant decline, particularly by 11.7%.
At the national level, the performance in 2024 is better than that of 2023, but it does not surpass the increases of 2.3% in 2022 and 7.1% in 2021. The latter was an atypical year due to the end of pandemic restrictions.
The progress in industrial production in 2024 was driven by increases in intermediate goods (+1.2%) and durable consumer goods (+2.5%), as energy, sustainable consumer goods, and capital goods reduced their production by 0.8%, 0.7%, and 0.3% respectively.
Across different sectors, the largest production increases in 2024 occurred in the manufacturing of computer products (+17.7%) and pharmaceutical products (+10.9%), with only two declines. They were followed by the paper industry, with a growth of 4.8%; the chemical industry (+3.7%); and coking and refining of petroleum (+3.4%).
On the other hand, the biggest annual decreases in production were recorded in the leather and footwear industry (-8.3%) and in the textile industry, which reduced production on average by 3.1% compared to 2023.
Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production increased by an average of 0.4% in 2024, with decreases in sustainable consumption (-1.1%), energy (-0.9%), and capital goods (-0.6%), and progress in non-durable consumer goods (+2%) and intermediate goods (+0.8%).
Eight autonomous communities saw an increase in industrial production in 2024, while nine recorded negative rates.
The highest annual progress was seen in Castilla y León (+3.9%), Catalonia (+3.4%), and La Rioja (+2.6%).
On the other hand, the largest decreases in industrial production in 2024 were in the Balearic Islands (-4.4%), Cantabria (-3.9%), and the Valencian Community (-2.8%).
In the last month of 2024, industrial production increased by 4.7% compared to December 2023, a rate 8.3 points higher than in November and its highest advance since October, when it increased by 6.4%.
With the internal performance in December of last year, industrial production resumed the positive trend after a 3.6% decline in November.
Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production increased by 2.1% year-on-year last year, a rate 2.2 points higher than in November and the highest since March 2023.
In a monthly period (December 2024 to November of the same year) and within the seasonality and calendar series, industrial production increased by 0.9%, thus registering the highest monthly advance since November 2023, when it increased by 1.2%.
