La plantilla de Navantia Cádiz alivia preocupaciones con renovación del contrato con Royal Caribbean

The announcement made on Tuesday by Navantia regarding the renewal of their strategic agreement with the Royal Caribbean Group was well received by the team in Cádiz, as this had been a matter of concern in recent months. This news has been exceptional for them.

José Antonio Bolaños, the president of Navantia’s Company in the Shipyards of Cádiz, shared with Europa Press that the previous work done on the «Allure of the Seas» refurbishment served as a driving force for the maritime transport company to decide on renewing the contract with Navantia.

Bolaños mentioned that during the refurbishment of this cruise ship in Navantia Cádiz, some last-minute disadvantages were encountered when three faults were detected in the propeller. This situation was considered catastrophic for the Royal Caribbean Group as it meant a delay in the completion of the project, affecting the prestige of the brand.

He explained, «This would extend the work, which was initially planned for 42 days, by approximately three or four days because of the unexpected repairs required. Navantia committed to completing this as quickly as possible, and in the end, it only took one extra day.»

After resolving these unforeseen issues and completing the project which generated revenue of over 100 million euros, the American company was pleased with Navantia’s work. Despite having its own shipyard in the United States, the service provided by Navantia in Cádiz over the years had earned their trust, leading to the renewal of the contract.

Regarding the terms of the agreement, Bolaños detailed that there was an increase in the fees offered along with an extension of the contract for additional years. This news was considered significant for the volume of work at the naval sites in Cádiz, as defined by Bolaños.

He further explained that Navantia’s commitment is to collaborate with companies on higher-level projects and an increase in fees, justified for covering costs that occur over weekends in the auxiliary industry. The contract renewal was a relief as it had been a matter of concern in recent months, and the news was exceptional.

In conclusion, Bolaños emphasized that the workers from the auxiliary industry would be absorbed into Navantia’s permanent staff, consisting of 170 individuals, due to the high volume of work at the naval sites in Cádiz. This transition process is being continuously discussed in the company’s committee.
