La Musicoteca Víctor Espídos facilitará instrumentos a 500 alumnos en 2024-25
La Musicoteca Víctor Espídos, part of the Madrid City Council Libraries Network, will lend musical instruments to over 500 students for the 2024-2025 school year. The delegate for Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, visited the center today, located in the central courtyard of Conde Duque, which is processing the more than 300 applications received since the opening of the application period on September 9. Nearly 90% of the requests are for loans for children.
The requirements for the free loan, which can be requested until October 9, are to be registered in Madrid and be studying music. The available instruments include violins, cellos, violas, clarinets, flutes, oboes, saxophones, French horns, trumpets, and guitars. The loan is granted annually, extendable for a maximum period of six years. Additionally, the Musicoteca Víctor Espídos offers its users other instruments to play in their rehearsal rooms, as well as the possibility to reserve these spaces to play their own instruments.
In recent days, the Musicoteca has begun distributing some of these resources. «We hope that some of them help to train a great musician, and of course that they all create music enthusiasts, which is already important,» Rivera de la Cruz stated.
As the delegate pointed out, this Musicoteca was founded in 1919 by Víctor Espídos, who began lending instruments in the 1930s and later «enriched with donations and purchases made by the City Council».
