La fusión entre BBVA y Banco Sabadell podría redefinir la banca en el área del euro.

BBVA is considering a possible merger with Banco Sabadell, which could significantly increase the profit in the Eurozone within the global context of the group, addressing the current impact of Mexico.

According to the report submitted to the SEC, the acquisition of Sabadell would expand the profit in the Eurozone by over 40%, adding to the total assets of the group, which would also see an increase in this region with this operation. Spain, where BBVA holds the highest percentage of assets, would see its figure rise to approximately 60% of the amount with Sabadell, indicating a stronger focus on developed markets.

In terms of customer diversification, Sabadell would enhance BBVA’s presence in large SMEs and companies, presenting an opportunity to improve the overall offering in these vital segments.

BBVA anticipates that this merger will not only increase its power in the Eurozone but also transform the group into a more resilient entity in economic fluctuations. If completed, the merged group would position itself as the second-largest bank in Spain, with assets exceeding one billion euros and a significant increase in the lending market.

The path to the merger was marked by negotiations that highlighted the complexity of such operations. Discussions were revived in April 2024, following a failed attempt in 2020, demonstrating BBVA’s determination to pursue this combination.

The proposal sparked tensions, and after a series of strategic meetings and disagreements, BBVA ultimately launched a hostile takeover bid facing resistance from Sabadell. The final decision now lies in the hands of CNMC. Please provide an alternative version.
