Investigación por envenenamiento con benzodiacepina en café de Zaidín

The Guardia Civil opened an investigation into a woman as the alleged perpetrator of a continuous crime against public health for the intentional poisoning of eight people, between 2020 and 2025, by introducing benzodiazepine into the coffee served at a bar in the city of Zaidín.

The operation «Toxdin» began in January of last year when three people reported suffering from intoxication after drinking coffee at a unit in this municipality in the Lower Zinc region, as reported by Benemérita.

Investigators found out that there was already a first complaint of poisoning in 2020, with analytical results testing positive for benzodiazepines, allegedly provided without drinking coffee.

This initial poisoning, along with the complaints from January of this year, allowed the agents to uncover the «modus operandi» of the investigations, verifying if the victims had in common that they worked in Zaidín between 2020 and 2021 and had visited the same hospitality unit, in addition to testing positive.

The investigation led to eight individuals who suffered physical and mental harm, endangering their physical health and integrity after consuming at this unit. One of them even had a traffic accident due to changes in cognitive abilities after consuming this medication.

The perpetrator also took this medication with a medical prescription and randomly chose the victims, without prior motivation.

The Guardia Civil forwarded the proceedings to the Fraga Instruction Court, number 2, which decreed, among other precautionary measures, the suspension of her profession as the head of a hotel unit.
