Homenajeados de CiBRA: Paz Vega, Leonardo Padura y Luz Casal en Toledo el 9 de noviembre
El Festival de Cine y Palabra (CiBRA) premiará a ocho figuras del mundo de la cultura como Paz Vega, Jorge Perugorría, Javier Fesser, Julieta Serrano, Luz Casal, Leonardo Padura, Irene Escolar o el elenco de Verano Azul, como premios honoríficos del festival, que han confirmado su presencia en la gala prevista para el próximo 9 de noviembre en el Palacio de Congresos de Toledo.
As revealed by the director of the CiBRA Festival, Gabriel Castaño, at a press conference presenting this sixteenth edition, with a budget close to 200,000 hours and running from this Friday, October 25 to November 9, touring between regional capitals and the city of Toledo La Puebla de Montalbán.
The Toledo Film Award will go to Jorge Perugorría, Cuban theater and film actor, documentarian, painter, and sculptor; The award that recognizes the talent of young people in the audiovisual sector, the Order of Toledo, will go to Irene Escolar, who played the former mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, in the series «Abogados» from RTVE. A series that will be featured in a new edition of the Film and Education Conference, which will take place on October 25 and 26 at the Castillo de San Servando in Toledo. In this sense, the award included in these Film and Education conferences will go to the Verano Azul series.
In the cinematic field, the Alice Guy award will be shared between actresses Paz Vega and Julieta Serrano. Just now, Julieta Serrano was one of Almodóvar’s girls and among her recognitions is the Gold Medal for Fine Arts Merit, which she received last year in 2019. As for this award, but in any area of life, singer Luz Casal will be awarded. She has up to 16 studio albums and has managed to be the soundtrack of several generations.
As for his career award, that is, Adaptation of a career award; a life of cinema’ will go to filmmaker Javier Fesser. He was responsible for films like Champions or two of the adaptations of Mortadelo and Filemón that made it to the big screen.
Finally, in this fusion of cinematography and literature, the II «Viento de Luna» Literary Prize will be awarded, which will be collected by the international writer Leonardo Padura. Padura will also participate in one of the literary presentations scheduled for this new edition of the Film and Word Festival.
There will be 60 activities, including several literary presentations, seven previews, and their grand closing gala. Tickets for the final gala will go on sale from Tuesday, November 5 on the Festival’s website.
The programming will begin on Friday, October 25 with the start of the eleven days of Film and Education. An initiative that will travel from Verano Azul to the use of artificial intelligence in the production of audiovisual content. These two-day sessions will feature an opening panel focusing on the RTVE series ‘Las Abogadas’.
On Saturday, October 26, the winner of the 2023 Planeta Prize, Sonsoles Ónega, will present her book «La hija de la criada» at the National Hospital of Paraplegics in Toledo starting at 12:00, with free entry until full capacity.
Presented as ‘42,195. Marathon: Mother of the Lamb’, by Luis Fernández Reneo; ‘La mitad de Ana’, by Marta Nieto; «Yo no soy aquella», by María Ripoll; and ‘Superklaus’, by Steve Majaury and Andrea Sebastiá, will take place at Cibra and will be complemented by screenings of titles like ‘Las chicas de la estación’, by Juana Macías; “¿Es el enemigo? La película de Gila, by Alexis Morante; and «Marco» by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño.
Another event presented in this sixteenth edition will be the meeting between three actresses of three different generations. These are Julieta Serrano, Paz Vega, and Irene Escolar. An event that will take place on Saturday, November 9, the last day of the Festival, at the Círculo del Arte, starting at 12:00.
Cuban writer Leonardo Padura will present his book «Ir a La Habana» on Friday, November 8, starting at 19:00 at the Cigarral del Santo Ángel Custodio in Toledo. An event that will take place with free entry until capacity is reached. Also, in La Puebla de Montalbán, Ángeles Caballero will present her novel «Los parques de atracciones también cierran». She will do so on Sunday, November 3, at the La Celestina Museum, starting at 12:30, with free entry.
A literary area that is completed with the presentation of the novel «La última función» by Luis Landero in the Salón Rico on Thursday, November 7. Next, a day later, on Friday, November 8, it will be the turn of Montserrat Calderón’s book, with ‘Los Últimas de la Calle’.
MiniCiBRA will bring together around 10,000 students in various film screenings. Additionally, in CiBRA’s goal of bringing cinema closer to young people, it will once again organize different cinematographic encounters «Reyes Abades», at the Fábrica de Armas campus of UCLM, as well as at the Luz del Tajo cinemas.
Another novelty will be the inclusion of music in most of the activities programmed during the 16 days of this cultural event.
The mayor of the city of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, stated that the City Council contributes 55,000 euros and provides the facilities of the Teatro Rojas and the Congress Palace, hoping that this event – after many achievements in a trajectory of more than a decade – will become a recognized event like the Malaga or San Sebastián film festival.
For her part, the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo, valued the joint work of administrations and sponsors, giving equal importance to both and affirming that the Board of Directors contributes around 50,000 euros and provides the facilities of the Teacher Training Center, Castillo de San Servando.
On the other hand, the spokesperson for the Provincial Council of Toledo and mayor of La Puebla de Montalbán, Soledad de Frutos, valued the contribution of the Minicibra provincial institution so that all students have the opportunity to learn about cinema, praising the community effort to give this festival a provincial character.
Likewise, the Director of Social Action of the La Caixa Foundation of Castilla-La Mancha, César Jimeno, stated that this event «is more than a party» since it includes different activities that represent «a great social commitment» such as those developed at the Paraplegics Hospital or MiniCiBRA, bringing the seventh art closer to the children of the province.
