Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced his resignation after his party, the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (Open VLD), suffered defeat in the European elections. On Monday, De Croo submitted his resignation to King Felipe, who has the power to reject it at his discretion. The king must now consult with political figures and begin the process of forming a new federal government.

The Hungarian right-wing party Fidesz of Viktor Orbán wins the European elections, but loses significant support.
