Emilio «El Loco», who was on trial for the murder and dismemberment of his mother-in-law in July 2021 in the town of Chapinería in Madrid, admitted the crime this Friday before the court and expressed his remorse.
«I regret everything. I can’t imagine how I could have done this,» he said in his brief statement in which he confirmed the confession made to the Civil Guard and the judge handling the case.
Emilio was arrested a few days after the events, on August 4, after human remains were found in a vacant lot near María Luisa’s house. «El Loco» confessed to the Civil Guard that he killed and dismembered his mother-in-law with an axe and a saw, burying her dismembered body in three plastic bags in a vacant lot.
On the other hand, África denied having participated in both the burial of the victim’s body and the cleaning of the house where the murder and subsequent dismemberment of the body took place. She claims she found out about her mother’s death through television.
«I’m having an anxiety attack. And that’s how I feel. I see myself in jail, without my daughter, without my family, no one believes me, and I try to commit suicide in jail. I just want to forget this and be a normal person,» she pointed out.
The accused faces 18 years in prison at the request of the prosecutor for aggravated homicide, while the family is asking for a reviewable life sentence for both Emilio and África. The defense is requesting a full defense of mental disorder with admission to a psychiatric prison facility.
During the investigation, the defendant claimed that the victim’s head, a 73-year-old woman, «was taken by pests.» The crime occurred on the weekend of July 25, 2021. The lifeless body of the woman was found partially buried in an area on the outskirts of the city. The head was never found.
