El PSDEG advierte sobre la posible concesión de fondos de la UE para proyecto de Altri en Palas de Rei.

The spokesman for the PSDEG executive, Julio Torrado, warned that if the Galician government managed the European funds and the distribution was decided «in the office of the wheel,» the project proposed by the Portuguese company Altri for Palas de Rei (Lugo) «would have been built.»

This was expressed in a press conference held on Monday and after this weekend, a massive protest took place in Caramiñal against this initiative that has already received the favorable impact on the environment from Xunta.

In his speech, Torrado emphasized the need to focus on the viability of a project that he claims needs 250 million euros to move forward. «This is the debate and this is what will truly define the future,» he said to ensure that it is a project that «Galicia does not need or want.»

After influencing the socialists, who always warned that the debate revolved around the solvency, rigor, and viability of the project, he offered a «welcome» to all those who are now focusing on these aspects. «Now all voices are focused on whether or not they will have those 250 million in public funding and if the project is viable or not with these funds,» he said.

«This is the debate and this is what will define the future,» he had to remind that the demonstration this weekend allowed the «Galician government to unmask and talk about a large macrocellulose, a project that Galicia does not need or want.»

That said, he recalled that the money requested went to the Inri

«An issue that the Socialist Party has always argued was not appropriate and that we were the only ones who did not vote in favor,» he said to ensure that «if at that time they had accepted that they would be managed by the Xunta de Galicia today, Altri would have already built.»

«Because those 250 million, which would be decided in the office of the wheel, would receive an express acceleration vision, they saw the accelerated permits that were given and the horrible comparison with any other project that requires much more study,» he said.

Torrado emphasized that the PSDEG continues to maintain the position that this is the subject of debate, viability; And that European funds will be well managed where they are managed. After that, he criticized that the PP now emphasizes what the government will do when Xunta «has a lot to do.»

After this statement and asked if the government should approve the European funds, Torrado stated that the PSDEG does not like this project, but understands that the granting of funds responds to a regulated competition with an established procedure, so the state government will have to analyze it. «And we are more to respect the rules to prevail,» he said.

In addition, at the press conference, Torrado referred to the mobilization that took place on Saturday in A Pobra to emphasize that citizens mobilized «against the big lie of Altri,» a «political project that was fundamentally based on a lie.»

«They said it would be for fiber manufacturing since then and that is a lie. They said it would generate 4,000 jobs and that is a lie. They said the forest model will not change and that is a lie. They said it is viable, financial, solvent, and it seems to be a lie because it requires 250 million, if not it could be,» he said.

All this, as he pointed out, resulted in «Altri, the political project sponsored by Rueda, ultimately being revealed as a big lie.» He also criticized that the president of Xunta is now starting to question the autonomous funds for this project. «A cable collection that shows that Rueda himself realized that his lie did not hold up,» he said.
