El increíble plan de Alemania para la energía solar lunar

Previously, I saw that China wanted to fly to the moon, so it was discovered on its surface. But now, Germany has ambitious plans, as it tries to build something every month that could make history in renewable energy and our satellite.

The mysteries of the moon

Our natural satellite has been a subject of study for several years. From the first man’s trip to the moon to today’s missions, scientists have wanted to discover what resources are in it and, of course, how we can use them.

Among the most abundant resources, we find monthly dust. A material that, as its name indicates, is only found on the moon and, although at first it seemed to be just dust, it has many more interesting characteristics than we could imagine.

It turns out that this dust can absorb solar light. Therefore, it has become a topic of interest in renewable energy production and especially for the creation of solar panels, which could mark a before and after in the history of solar energy and the moon.

The magic of monthly dust

A group of researchers at University of Potsdam in Germany, managed to develop solar cells using simulated moon dust. To do this, they melted this dust turning it into a monthly glass and used it to develop a new type of solar cell.

This glass combined with perovskite, a very economical and efficient glass. Therefore, they created solar panels, and the results were impressive, because for every gram of material sent into space, they produced up to 100 times more energy than traditional solar panels.

This happens because, unlike standard glass that darkens slowly in space, blocking sunlight and decreasing its efficiency, monthly glass has a natural brown tone due to the impurities of the dust.

This characteristic prevents it from darkening, so that solar light can become a more effective energy, but also the panels become more resistant to damage caused by radiation.

Simple and economical manufacturing

On the other hand, the team discovered that the manufacturing of monthly glass is actually very simple, as it does not require a complex purification process. Furthermore, concentrated sunlight can guarantee the extreme temperatures necessary to melt the monthly dust and transform it into glass.

And if this was not enough, it eliminates the need to transport heavy materials into space. The cells currently used in space are very expensive and heavy, making them very difficult to transport, but now, with this system, the problem could be solved.

An excellent breakthrough in solar energy

This discovery will undoubtedly be an excellent breakthrough for solar energy, one of the cleanest and most respectful sources for our planet, as it allows electricity generation without emitting polluting gas emissions.

On the other hand, this shows us how many things can be discovered through research, that we would never have imagined, especially when it comes to a discovery beyond our planet.

The moon hides great mysteries and in the same way that incredible properties and benefits of monthly dust have now been discovered, maybe in the future we can discover other resources hidden in this mysterious place.

This kind of advancement increasingly transitions to cleaner energies and shows us that, through research, maximum benefit can be achieved and that the resources to achieve it can be where we least expect or even outside the planet. In fact, it is possible to discover more resources with this new invention that will take us to Mars.
