El gobierno gestiona retorno barcos Melilla-Almería tras quejas por reducción de conexiones.

The government delegate of Melilla, Sabrina Moh, announced that efforts had been initiated to restore the ferry service between Melilla and Almería. This decision came after complaints from various groups regarding the difficulties in family reconciliation, including military and educational unions, following the reduction of weekly connections from six to January 2025.

The head of the government delegation, who directly addressed this issue with the Secretary General of Air and Maritime Transport, Benito Núñez, stated, «We have made significant progress on this issue and we are very close to providing a solution.»

Consequently, the Ministry of Health prepared and submitted a report on the social interest of these ferry lines to the Directorate General of Trader Marine. Representatives of the affected platform held a meeting with the director of the development functional area, Juer Martín, a few days ago.

«There are many citizens who benefit from a maritime connection with the city of Almería due to family, workforce, business, or other reasons. Therefore, from the outset, we have been working to determine if the reorganization of rotations was feasible and to address this need,» the delegate said.

Moh emphasized that «the government delegation is working to meet the needs of the citizens, as the general interest of the people of Melilla is the guiding principle in all our actions.»

«For this government delegation, the maritime connections of our city with the Andalusian cities of Almería, Málaga, and Motril are essential. Therefore, we are working to ensure these connections and provide the people of Melilla with quality maritime transport that we deserve,» she explained.

In this context, Moh recalled that her government had included the line with Motril in the navigation contract, thus guaranteeing this route, unlike the previous administration which had made it unviable.

The government representative also highlighted that the current government under Pedro Sánchez had succeeded in providing Melilla with the most modern ship in the market, a stark contrast to the outdated and weak conditions under which Melillans had previously traveled.

It is evident that the government of Melilla is committed to addressing the concerns of its citizens and ensuring that they have access to efficient and reliable maritime transportation services. The restoration of the ferry service between Melilla and Almería is a crucial step towards meeting the needs of the people and enhancing connectivity between the two cities.
