Disminuye satisfacción de españoles con salud pública durante pandemia

The percentage of Spaniards declared «satisfied» or «very satisfied» with public health has decreased from 67 to 46 percent between 2020 and 2024, indicating the most pronounced drop in pandemic evaluation of different public services by the population, according to the analysis conducted by social research data (CIS).

During World Health Day, FUNA has published an analysis on the concern of the Spanish population about health after the pandemic. «Today, more than before, many people are fully aware of how their lives are directly conditioned by the state and the capacity of the system,» it says.

Therefore, based on the CSI survey on attitudes towards the welfare state in November 2024, it concludes that health is the public service for which several citizens believe more resources should be allocated (93%), compared to 83 percent declaring it for education, or 73 percent for pensions.

The decline in the evaluation of the health system coincides with a shift in the perception of health as a problem. Concern for health is still present, but it is now considered more of a personal issue than a national one.

In March 2025, 12 percent of Spaniards spontaneously indicated health as one of the top three issues in Spain, compared to 15 percent in 2019. However, when asked about social issues that personally affect them, the percentage mentioning health increased from 16 percent to 21 percent, only behind economic issues (31%).

Mentioning health as one of the top three issues in the country began to decline in mid-2022, while those identifying it as a personal problem remained relatively stable and at high levels that year.

The analysis detailed significant differences in survey results based on certain sociodemographic variables. In March 2025, women (26%) mentioned health more frequently than men (16%), indicating a stronger perception of issues related to healthcare.

In terms of age, a clear pattern is also identified, as individuals between 45 and 64 years old, who are often simultaneously caring for older generations and looking after their health, are the ones who frequently mention health affecting them, even more so than those who have already exceeded retirement age.

Regarding ideological self-identification, health concern is higher among those on the left and in the center of the political spectrum.
