The spokesperson for the government of Ceuta, Alejandro Ramírez, confirmed that the autonomous administration sent the necessary data to the central government regarding unaccompanied migrants received in 2024, which numbered 867 in the autonomous city.
The Ministry of Presidency and the Government were responsible for sending information to the Ministry of Youth and Childhood during the period marked by the Royal Law that allows for the reform of foreigners to enable small automatic transfers between the autonomy.
Ramírez emphasized that «the Management Council, as well as the popular group of Ceuta, support the Royal Decree law,» whose approval will be discussed on April 10 in Congress. The spokesperson stated that he was unaware of the significance of his party’s vote at the national level.
According to this fact, the reform of the foreign law «largely, if not definitively, solves the problem of minors in our city.» «Not only about the transfer itself, but also about the economic impact it has on the city’s budget,» he added.
The amendment to article 35 of the foreign law will allow for the decongestion of the care and reception services in Ceuta, which houses more than 400 minors in its facilities.
