Support for the Renace Alicante project
The Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory continues to support The Alicante Renace project in its natural space recovery activity through ecological restoration and mountain representation.
The autonomous environmental secretary and territory, Raúl Mérida, received a certificate of education, action, and environmental awareness from the Alicante Association, the Project Promoter, acknowledging the overall contribution and support for this initiative. Last Saturday, the association organized an ecological restoration day at Mount Organgia within the Renace Alicante project, attended by 1,700 volunteers and over 20 entities.
Raúl Mérida mentioned that the generalitis provided 2,000 native flora to reclaim the area, necessary tools for planting, and raise environmental awareness. «Institutional support and participation are necessary in initiatives like those promoted by Renace Alics to advance in the recovery of our mountains, but above all, to raise awareness that ecological restoration is everyone’s task,» he said.
During the day, volunteers successfully reforested 10,000 square meters with pine trees, almonds, cotton, and olive trees, as well as shrubs like Lentisk, Holm oaks, Rosemary, Thyme, and Esparto. The restoration will be strengthened with the installation of drip irrigation with recycled water after the rainy season, ensuring the ecosystem’s durability.
On the other hand, the director of Alicante Renace, Daniel Aguillary, emphasized the institutional support of the Generalitat «as an essential support for projects like ours to achieve maximum impact. It’s not just about planting trees, but also about generating a change in how we interact with our environment. The recovery of our natural spaces is a priority, and this commitment must continue to grow in the future.«
A necessary ecological restoration
Brave Ecological restoration activities like those promoted by Renace Alics not only have an immediate impact on environmental regeneration but also play a key role in environmental awareness and education.
In the current context of climate crises, these initiatives encourage citizen action, reverse land degradation, raise awareness in society, and strengthen alliances between entities, demonstrating that sustainability is a shared challenge that can only be addressed through collective efforts.
Mount Organgia is one of the most important natural spaces in the municipality of Alicante. Its conservation is essential for climate regulation, CO₂ absorption, and protection of local biodiversity. Thanks to projects like Alicante Reborn and institutional support, this green lung regains its vitality, becoming a reference for sustainability and environmental education in the Valencian community.
