Vuelo con deportados venezolanos de EE.UU. reprogramado por mal tiempo: ministro del Interior

The flight to repatriate Venezuelan migrants in irregular situations in the United States, originally planned for this Friday, has been rescheduled due to a «weather problem,» announced the Minister of Interior and Justice in Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello.

«It is not resuming today because they announced that there is a weather issue, a hurricane problem, and there will be flight restrictions. We are waiting to hear if it will be tomorrow, if it will be Sunday,» he said on his regular Friday podcast.

Richard Grenell, a special envoy for the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Thursday that Venezuela has agreed to resume flights to repatriate citizens who «violated immigration laws» and entered the country.

The Venezuelan government has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Grenell to «repatriate» individuals in the U.S., within the Return, a homeland plan implemented by the state.

Leader Nicolás Maduro stated over the weekend that Trump’s decision to cancel the license that allowed American Chevron to produce oil in Venezuelan territory, announced at the end of February, «damaged» the open communications between Miraflores and the White House.

These discussions led to the deportation last month of three groups of Venezuelan migrants, a total of 609 people, who were in irregular situations in the United States.

Cabello welcomed Grenell not referring to the deportees as «terrorists» or members of a criminal organization in Aragua.

«They tell the President of the United States that they are all on the Aragua train and when we check here, it’s a lie, how well they implement it,» he said.

Cabello emphasized that none of the deportees are related to the dismantled Aragua train.

The U.S. government decided to cancel the license because, Trump stated, Venezuela did not respect «receiving irregularly deported migrants at the rapid pace they agreed upon,» and Maduro’s government did not comply with the electoral conditions for the 2024 presidential elections, in which the opposition denounced fraud.

At the end of January, Grenell met with Maduro in Caracas to exert pressure to accept the deported citizens and returned to his country with six Americans who were imprisoned in Venezuela.
