Veterinarios de Riojan protestan contra restricciones en prescripción de drogas

The veterinarians from Riojan participated in a concentration against the government delegation on Wednesday to show their rejection of the new decree that regulates drugs that restrict prescription freedom, especially antibiotics. «Our clinical criteria are limited, it restricts us and reduces us.»
They also argue that «they listen and participate», because veterinarians «are the only qualified professionals who prescribe and ensure the responsible use of drugs in animals. Our work protects the health of animals and, by extension, public health,» as indicated by the spokesperson at the concentration in Rioja.
They also request to be considered essential services and that their services are exempt from VAT.
In the face of several banners where they could read «We are veterinarians. We are «essential services», for a drug law that allows distribution like the rest of Europe» or «enough», the spokesperson addressed the media to explain that «today we come together to defend the health of animals, public health, and dignity.»
All this in a concentration that is collective in all delegations and under the delegations of Spain, because «we feel seriously affected by the current drug law.»
Peciña assured that he said that Royal Decree 666-2023, of which they request its repeal: «Not only clashes and leads us to the prescription of antibiotics, but our clinical criteria are actually reduced based on the fact that we are guided by technical sheets of any medicine and medications.»
Moreover, «they put a prescription of veterinary waterfalls that are impossible to do.» As he explained: «We are continuously trained, we believe in scientific evidence, we are healthy, and we are guided by this and we will always prescribe based on what is best to save lives, not on a technical card or what is marked for us.»
With the system established last January called ‘Presvet’ «which is more bureaucratic,» the veterinarian says that «it slows down our consultations because it implies that, with a mutual re-repeat, only half an hour when making the prescription;
«All this is absurd, I think in human medicine it is not done and we do not understand very well why we ask now and I ask, to the detriment of fines, if we do not make a correct prescription and load it within the 15 days we have, due to 1,200,000 euros.»
Since there is an option to modify or repeal this decree «and that is why we will continue to mobilize until Minister Luis’s Plan wants to meet with us, listen to us, and will not stop lying because what he said the next day in the Senate is false, we do not have the freedom to prescribe in any case, we are not allowed to prescribe.
«We are not people who take care of puppies and kittens, nor are we, but there are other species, each needs registration, needs a distribution criterion, a parakeet is not the same as a dog and I do not use a technical file,» he said.
Additionally, a manifesto was read at the concentration event in which, among other issues, they also showed their disagreement «with unfair VAT that discriminates against animal health.»
In this sense, he explains: «Animal health is a priority, however, in Spain, it remains taxed with a general VAT of 21 percent. Therefore, they support «a small tank.»
They demand, endlessly, that Spanish veterinary legislation be equivalent to European standards. «A proper regulation that allows us to continue protecting animal health, public health, and dignifying our profession.»
