UGT advierte sobre un aumento de accidentes laborales y riesgos psicosociales.

The UGT union once again focused this Wednesday on the latest two work accidents that occurred yesterday, in which two workers from Rioja lost their lives. With these data, «we are afraid that this year will be terrible» in terms of accidents, said the secretary of the UGT-fic organization in Rioja, Rubén Fernández.
Specifically, just yesterday, a roadside assistance operator was struck and killed on the Navarra road, and a worker was buried under a large wall while working in Pradejón. Although both are from Rioja, the Navarra accident will not be included in the regional statistics on deaths by workplace accidents, explained UGT.
After observing a minute of silence and reading a manifesto, Rubén Fernández mourned the two deceased workers and stated that, even without the Navarra accident, there have already been many people who have died during our working hours in our region in just a month and a half of 2025.
«These figures show us that accidents are increasing, that the law on prevention of occupational risks is not working, and therefore we must change and renew it.»
That is why he considers it «essential» to convene the Health and Safety Council of Rioja to implement urgent measures «against this scourge not only in our autonomous community but throughout the country.»
Out of the four deaths recorded in La Rioja, «Three were due to psychosocial risks. There are heart attacks, deaths related to work tasks, stress… «showing that» prevention services are not working well because medical recognition is not functioning.»
«And this is something that we have to start addressing and recognizing that psychosocial risks are a danger that, although sometimes not visible, is also deadly.»
For this, he says: «We must renew the prevention services and continue working. We need more inspectors on the streets. The inspectors in La Rioja are insufficient.»
«We need the Health and Safety Council of Rioja to operate and provide measures and resources, such as sector delegates, to be on the streets, in small companies…»
The inspection «must go out and have even more personal resources,» he concluded.
