Temperaturas récord en Ourense alientan baños en el río

The province of Ourense closed out the month of March with record high temperatures, reaching 30 degrees in Leiro and the capital city. This warm weather encouraged people to take a dip in the river and thermal spaces found in this inland area.
Local residents couldn’t recall the last time they experienced such early heat in the year, with some describing the temperatures as «paranormal.» According to meteorological data, the highest temperature was recorded in the municipality of Leiro, where the thermometer reached 30.8 degrees at 17:10. Ourense city also experienced high temperatures, peaking at 29.7 degrees at 16:50.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) highlighted the maximum temperature of 30 degrees recorded on March 31st at its station in Ourense. Some residents chose to cool off at the Outariz and Burga de Caundo thermal baths, the only public thermal spaces open that day. For many children, this marked their first swim of the year.
«This time last year, we didn’t swim until two months later. These temperatures are truly unusual,» said David Corcoba, who visited the thermal baths to enjoy the warmth. Another bather shared similar sentiments, noting the unseasonable heat in March. Due to the exceptional weather, swimming options were limited to certain areas like Ourense.
As temperatures soared in Leiro and the capital, other parts of the province and Southern Lugo also experienced highs above 30 degrees on Monday. For instance, the weather station in Remuíño, Arnoia (Ourense), recorded 30.7 degrees at 18:40, while San Clodio, Ribas de Sil (Lugo), reached 30.1 degrees at 17:40.
In neighboring provinces, temperatures approached 30 degrees in municipalities like Salvatra do Miño (27.5) and Mondariz (27.1). The contrast between the warm daytime highs and chilly early morning lows, which dipped below zero in some high-altitude areas, was particularly noteworthy.
For example, Calvos de Randín (Ourense) recorded -1.4 degrees, while Lalín (Pontevedra) saw temperatures at 0 degrees. Similarly, Baltar (Ourense) registered 0.2 degrees, and Verín (Ourense) had temperatures of 0.9 degrees in the morning.
