Sus motores cambiarán la gasolina por la quema de partículas de agua.

Gasoline seems to be a thing of the past, as more and more companies are trying to innovate in engines, like this bus that looks like it’s from the future. But now the news is bringing up Ferrari, because their engines will replace gasoline with water particles! But how is this possible?

Arrival of Green Mobility

The automotive industry surprises us every day with modern innovations, but in recent times, there has been a greater emphasis on green options, those who care about protecting our planet.

In this context, brands like Toyota, Hyundai, McLaren, Porsche, and even Lamborghini are some of those who wanted to bet on the famous fuel of the future and, of course, Ferrari didn’t want to be left out of this green trend.

Hydrogen as fuel, unlike batteries that generate electricity to power engines, works as a fuel to burn a car instead of gasoline in a process that emits no carbon dioxide, only water particles.

And although the idea is not new, it is the first time Ferrari has publicly expressed interest in it. «A hydrogen engine would not generate greenhouse gases and minimal amounts of other pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and particles» Ferrari said in patent applications. But even though it all sounds good, there’s a problem!

A Big Challenge for Ferrari

The problem is that incorporating hydrogen power into their cars implies including features that deviate from the essence of a Ferrari. This raises the question for the brand How to incorporate this green technology without losing the nature of their supercar?

We remember that the brand is well known for the strength, courage, and allure of its sports cars, which has positioned it at the top of the market.

But it seems Ferrari has found the answer, as their new engine promises to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions without sacrificing one of the brand’s highlights: the unmistakable sound of a gasoline engine. But how do they do that?

The Perfect Balance

The answer seems to lie in an innovative six-cylinder engine, a departure from traditional V engines that could mark a before and after in the brand’s history.

The patent filed by Fabrizio Fovaretto, Ferrari’s innovation manager, details a hybrid system that incorporates a strategically placed combustion engine at the rear, near an electric motor at the front, and the most surprising part was choosing a inline six-cylinder block.

This innovative idea transforms the way we view a sports car. By placing the hydrogen tanks on both sides of the engine, we see a completely different way of storing energy, prioritizing emissions, but without compromising the characteristic power of a Ferrari!

Among the innovations are excessive intake and two intercoolers and turbochargers driven by electric motors, suggesting the implementation of a 48-volt hybrid system. Therefore, Ferrari’s proposal allows the fiery engine to continue roaring, but more sustainable!

As we can see, Ferrari thought of everything! And with this invention, they managed to find a balance between green technology and their dominant sports calling, showing that it is possible to transition to green mobility, as Tesla did with this new venture.
