Several Arab countries showed their support for Lebanon on Tuesday after the explosion of search devices belonging to members of the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, which killed at least nine people and injured 2,800 and which Beirut attributed to Israel.
On one hand, the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman al Safadi, expressed his total rejection of «any action that threatens Lebanon’s security» and conveyed to Lebanese Prime Minister Nayib Mikati Jordan’s willingness to provide medical assistance to the injured.
In the same vein, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati had a conversation with Mikati in which he expressed solidarity with Cairo and indicated that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had agreed to provide Beirut with all necessary support, according to «L’Orient». -Le Jour’.
For its part, the Iraqi authorities announced that they will send medical and emergency teams to cooperate with operations in Lebanon due to the wave of injuries caused by the search device explosions. Additionally, officials from Baghdad expressed their fear of a «regional expansion of war.»
The Syrian government, where approximately 14 Hezbollah militants were injured in this incident, «strongly condemned the new bloody crime committed by the Zionist entity against civilians in Lebanon,» after which it expressed its solidarity and support for its neighboring country, reported the SANA news agency. In this sense, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Israel of «desiring» to expand the conflict in the Middle East, although it did not mention the explosions recorded in its territory. The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abul Gheit, reacted in the same way, condemning the «treacherous Israeli attacks» and warning about the «consequences of this dangerous escalation» amid ongoing Israeli threats of a possible invasion of Lebanon. Gheit continued to express solidarity with the population and the Government in what he considers a «flagrant» violation of their sovereignty and security, urging the UN Security Council to «take responsibility» for Israel’s actions. At least nine people died and over 2,800 were injured when search devices exploded on properties belonging to Hezbollah members. From Beirut, both the Government and Hezbollah recounted what happened to Israel and promised a response, although Tel Aviv remains silent. Hezbollah’s allies – such as Palestinian militias, Houthi rebels in Yemen, or Iran – have shown their support for Lebanon and have not hesitated to point the finger at the «Zionist enemy» for what happened.
