Restauración integral de la Iglesia de San Vicente Ferrer de Plasencia con inversión de 400,000 euros

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth, and Sports has presented the drafting of the project and the Health and Safety Study for the Restoration Works of the Church in San Vicente Ferrer de Plasencia, also known as Santo Domingo, for an amount of 43,000 euros.

This action is the previous step to a comprehensive intervention estimated at 400,000 euros, whose objective is «the preservation and appreciation of this property declared for its cultural interest.»

The church, built in the fifteenth century by the mandate of the Zúñiga family and occupying the site of the city’s former synagogue, is one of the examples of religious Gothic, according to the Standura Council in a press release.

As mentioned, in the previous technical analysis, moisture, cracks, coatings, and a «poor general condition» were detected in the covering of the side aisles, among other pathologies.

The recovery project is part of the integral restoration policy of the properties belonging to the ministry and includes architectural interventions, facilities, and monumental lighting, responding to the need to preserve the temple, a great heritage value.

In addition, special attention is paid to the restoration of its Renaissance covering, Gothic vaults, side chapels, and damaged structural elements.

In addition to the architectural conservation works, an improvement in the electrical installation and the incorporation of an artistic lighting project, both interior and exterior, enhancing the aesthetic value of the temple and improving the visitor experience, as well as the restoration work, including the choir and the attached chambers.

The project will be guided by minimum intervention criteria, respect for the historical values of the property, reversibility of actions, and durability.

Measures will also be taken to promote universal accessibility, understood not only in its physical dimension but as access to knowledge and enjoyment of heritage.
