Rescate Suborbital: un juego emocionante con insultos y desafíos espaciales

Imagine this: Expand the space on a torpedo-shaped ship, doing the dangerous work of rescuing material in the obstructed orbit of a planet, when a huge alien fish appears out of nowhere and starts crawling. Pretty stressful day at work if you ask me. You could even be forgiven for accidentally crashing the ship in such conditions. In the Playdate game Suborbital Rescue, however, your supervisor is not so nice.
Cut into an asteroid or drones and you’ll be mocked «to the kingdom come by the sarcastic cat writing your performance reports. If the fish catches you with one of its huge teeth, any resulting loss is your fault for your «feeding» (a violation of company policy). That cat has something to say about every slip-up you make and it’s hilarious. In a strange way, it almost becomes part of the reward for completing a run. Every time I finished my shift, I was not only eager to see my scores, but also what new insult would be ready.
Your real goal in Suborbital Rescue is to collect as many of the small «C» chips and travel as far as possible while navigating through a space filled with dangerous objects.
The ship’s control is also a bit tricky. You have to use the crank to indicate the right direction, while pressing the B button (or the D-PAD buttons) to unleash powers. The physics takes some getting used to, and there’s the fish following you all the time. The more you get, the more complex areas you’ll have to navigate, avoiding everything from asteroids and I to what looks like huge space mushrooms and navigating through labyrinthine pipe systems. Flying through the rings will give you a boost to get away from the fish, just as flipping the ship in a 360 will.
The game had me on the edge of my seat focusing on my survival almost every second, but it’s not futile. Once I got the hang of controlling my ship and how it behaves, I managed to go far enough. But there are rankings to show how you stack up against other players in different mission fields: salvage recovery, overall distance, and performance, which is always humbling. Just like the observations of that darn cat. Come for the thrilling space adventure, stay for the trash-talking feline.
Some of my favorite lines so far include: «I don’t know if it happened to you, but… you should really try to fly through the rings, not into them»; «You know, most people try to stay away from space rocks.» And «Are you between a rock and a hard place? Not really. Where did you go?» At one point, the cat simply said: «Be better.» (In the Settings menu, there’s an option to change the dialogue box from «roast» to «how close», but why would you do that?) Suborbital Rescue by Right Meow Games is available on the PlayDate catalog for $8.
