Piden moratoria sobre ‘macrogranjas’ tras descubrir robo de agua del río Luchena

María Marín, spokesperson for Podemos in the Regional Assembly, reacted today to the alleged theft of water from the Luchena river to redirect it to «macro-farms» in the Sierra de Lorca, which for the regional deputy «once again demonstrates that this sector is out of control and completely unsustainable.»

«From Podemos, we demand that all the weight of the law falls on the 56 individuals under investigation and that they also be tried for belonging to a criminal organization,» argued Marín, who affirms that «behind this theft is the impunity enjoyed by some, despite such serious incidents as the assault on the Lorca town hall two years ago.»

For the purple party, however, the investigation must go further. «It is also necessary to investigate who these macro-farms work for and clarify all responsibilities, including those of the large pig integrators who take advantage of this model,» Marín states.

Finally, Marín called for «the immediate closure of all facilities operating outside the law and a moratorium on macro-farms in the Region of Murcia, a sector that,» in her words, «exceeds the available natural resources and the end of traditional animal husbandry in our land.»

The purple faction will present a motion at the beginning of next week calling for this moratorium in the Regional Assembly so that it can be debated as soon as the next ordinary session period begins in September.
