Oskar Martín elegido Secretario General de UGT Andalucía.

The 13th Andalusia Congress concluded on Wednesday in Granada, with the selection of Oskar Martín as Secretary General, who reviewed his mandate as the head of the Union. Martín’s candidacy, presented uniquely, received the support of 78.34 percent of the delegates who participated in the Congress.

The closing ceremony ended with speeches from UGT Secretary General Pepe Álvarez, the second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Social and Solidarity Economy, Yolanda Díaz, and the newly proclaimed Secretary General of UGT Andalusia, Oskar Martín.

Martín emphasized that «we had two intense days to exchange ideas that are closed today in this Congress with the conviction that we leave more united, better prepared, and stronger to face what is to come.» He thanked the «fight» undertaken in these years of the Union, which allowed thousands of workers to improve their working conditions, stating that they now want to «go further.»

«We want to develop a law of institutional participation that ensures that the voice of the unions does not depend on the government’s will. This provides people with a tool to improve real life in Andalusia.»

«Because it is true that today we have a labor reform agreed with the union organizations that recovered rights, ending temporality and restoring ultraactivity in collective bargaining. It is true that in just seven years, it has grown by 61 percent.»

«I also advanced with Covid ERTES, which saved hundreds of thousands of jobs; with the extension of paternity leave, with climate permits in emergency situations, with the reform of unemployment benefits, and with this first reduction of the weekly working day to 37.5 hours, I was congratulated.»

«We encourage you, Yolanda, to continue carrying through the pavilion to strengthen compensation and reinforce your causes; continue increasing the minimum wage to 60% of the average salary established by the European Social Charter and also courageously, so that the legal working day is set at those 32 hours in which we demand the movement of the Union of classes,» he addressed the second Vice President of the government and the Minister of Labor.

«I assure you that if you remain brave, if you continue to face the real problems of citizenship and workers in this country, UGT will never abandon you in the battle,» he said.

Martín said, «today we face an important challenge, we make young people see unionism as a space of interest and transformation,» because «the reality is that precarity has a young face,» this group launches temporary contracts; those who survive in the platform economy, «without rights, without security, without a decent salary» and those who have to choose «between paying rent or filling the refrigerator.»

The leader of UGT Andalusia has advanced in this context the promotion of «a network of young union leaders in each territory, so that they not only participate but also determine how to» ensure real spaces for young people in union bodies «and make digitization a tool to reach them, with training, social networks, and campaigns that speak their language.»

Along with this, he announced a working group on artificial intelligence and unionism as «the vanguard of this transformation, so that technology is not used against workers but in favor of their rights.»

The union «will continue to fight against discrimination, prejudice, and violence against the LGTBI community,» according to Glarzatiz, who will lead the future of unionism.
