Alejandro FG, who is accused of participating in the fatal beating of Samuel Luiz and of performing the «chokehold» -a strangulation technique that can cause the victim to lose consciousness- has declared himself innocent of the murder charge against him. The Public Ministry and the prosecution are demanding 22 years of imprisonment.

«I never punched them at any moment,» he said when he only responded to his lawyer’s questions during the trial at the Provincial Court of A Coruña, with a jury trial, and when he chose to do so at the end of testimonies and expert opinions.

«I saw Diego fighting with another guy, they were sitting alone,» he said about the first time he left a leisure venue on the promenade of A Coruña. «It was an instinctive reaction to think that he was hitting Diego,» he added about his intervention and in relation to his friend who allegedly initiated the attack, and after specifying that he grabbed the victim from behind and they fell to the ground.

However, he denied trying to drown him. «We only fought for a few seconds.» He then indicated that he had «never» practiced martial arts. «I wouldn’t even know how to do a technique like that,» he added about the assigned killer.

«If I had realized what was happening, I swear to God I would have tried to stop the attack.» «I deeply regret what I did,» he said at another point in his statement before adding: «I believe Samuel died not because of me.»
