The spokesman of PP, Borja Sémper, avoided confronting the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, on Monday after defending the current primary model and criticizing the campaign carried out by Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the 2023 general elections with Sloganto Blue Summer. As he stated, it is an «open» party where everyone can express themselves as they believe.
This Sunday, Ayuso confirmed her intention to make the «necessary proposals» within the framework of the XXI, the extraordinary National Congress of the PP to defend the primary model, so that «one affiliate, one vote» is fulfilled in Spain.
Furthermore, the President of Madrid was convinced that those who led the «blue summer» campaign, publicly presented by Borja Sémper, imitating a beach in Madrid, after seeing it: «If they had returned, the campaign would have been very different.»
When asked specifically about these statements by Ayuso in the newspaper «ABC,» Sémper assured that he feels «deeply comfortable» and «even proud of a party that allows people to be free.»
That said, he emphasized that the presentation project was still pending and, although he had an opinion, he wanted to wait to see this document. «But it seems good that anyone advances in any forum, in any circumstance, where their opinion in this regard or any other is welcomed,» he added, to insist that the PP is an «open» party.
«We are an open democratic party where everyone can express themselves, as we consider it a difference with the Socialist Party, we will not insult anyone. On the contrary, we accept it and it seems very reasonable,» he stated.
When asked later where the PP stood, whether in the centrality that Feijóo spoke of in the last hours or in the line defended by Ayuso, Sémper assured that he is a «central, liberal, and reformist» who intends to lead a social majority of Spaniards towards better politics.
«And this is shared by the national leadership of the PP, obviously, because they are the guidelines, and it is what Alberto Núñez Feijóo defends and is supported by the entire People’s Party. We are an alternative to this bad government because we believe that Spain deserves a better government,» he said.
According to Sémper, this alternative leads them to «seek 10 million voters» and «a social majority.» He also emphasized that it is «an alternative to centrality» and «moderation» that «encourages citizens not as hooligans but as citizens.»
This Sunday, at the PP protest in Plaza de España against the government of Sánchez, Feijóo said that he knows what place is and that «no one will move centrality,» which is «the only space capable of giving the majority of Spaniards what others have decided to share.» He also recalled that this is what former President José María Aznar did in the past, as it will open the door to the Moncloa Palace.
«I also want to tell you that I know perfectly well what my method is. The one that allowed me to face and defeat socialism and nationalism in my life. And the one that will allow Sánchez to return to the place from which he should never have left,» proclaimed Feijóo in front of the participants.
At the same event, the President of the PP acknowledged that within the PP and externally, there are «different styles» and «different intensities,» but the «same objective» shared by the «change» of the government of Pedro Sánchez.
