Manifestantes piden asignar dinero a derechos humanos y sociales

The Social Forum of La Rioja held on Thursday, «the first of many» peace demonstrations to express their rejection of violence and demand that this money be allocated to social rights and human rights. They also call for ensuring European security, but together, not in isolation, and without wars, because they lead to nothing.

The call began at 7:00 p.m. in front of the government delegation. Despite intermittent rain, around a hundred protesters gathered on the road after a banner reading «against the violation of human rights.» The mobilization also reached Portugal Avenue.

Spokespersons Isabel Cano and Julio Martínez criticized the «800 billion euros they want to invest» in what they call security, but the impression they have is that behind all these things there is a brutal arms business.

«And to the detriment of this,» they continue, «we will lose many rights and we will not respect human rights, nor those of education, health, etc.»

In light of this, they demand to know «what this security is because all this seems more like a desire for weapons, so that we buy weapons that are in use.»

The response they propose from the social forum is very clear: using dialogue. War never solves anything, and the evidence is Ukraine.

«We must value European security, but together, not in isolation, pointing fingers at each other.»

Finally, they emphasize the need to invest in social rights and human rights. It is not right to think about buying children here with the genocide happening in Palestine. What we must do is oppose and resist Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
