Las Cortes proponen financiar una residencia estudiantil en Arcos de Las Salinas con el Fondo de Inversión Teruel (FITE)

The request for the construction of a student residence in Arcos de las Salinas, Gúdar-Javalambre, made by the Commission of Environment and Tourism of the Courts in Aragon to the autonomous government, was approved with 17 votes in favor and 2 against. The initiative, proposed by the Podemos Deputy Andoni Corrales, received support from all groups except VOX.

Corrales highlighted the success of the ‘Galactic’ autonomy center, which welcomed 10,000 visitors in 2024, including students from universities in Hong Kong and Beijing. He emphasized the need for student accommodation to enhance educational opportunities in the region.

The Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Aragon Government, Manuel Blasco, announced plans for a planetary defense telescope and space debris observation, funded in part by the correct transition funds. These projects are crucial for scientific advancement and require proper accommodation facilities.

VOX proposed a feasibility study to ensure the sustainability of the student residence project, emphasizing the importance of investing in infrastructure for the future of education in Teruel and Aragon. The PP Deputy Jesús supported the ‘Galactic’ project as a significant scientific endeavor, drawing parallels with the success of Dinópolis in Teruel.

The budget for the Municipal Council’s project is €1,875,000, with strong interest from universities to conduct research in Javalambre. The creation of accommodation options is vital to attract researchers and ensure the success of scientific endeavors in the region.

PSOE and CHA representatives expressed the transformative potential of the student residence project in combating depopulation and enhancing educational opportunities. They emphasized the strategic role of FITE in promoting territorial balance and justice.

Tomás Guitarte from Aragon-Teruel stressed the importance of providing accommodation for researchers to stay longer in the area and engage in scientific observations. He proposed utilizing existing buildings or establishing new facilities like the nearby Polter colony for this purpose.
