Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump and leader of the Republican Party, emphasized on Wednesday that Argentina has become a beacon of freedom in the world and announced that her father will apply the chainsaw law to Washington bureaucracy just as – or Javier Milei from the far right in the South American country.
Trump appeared at the inauguration of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a forum of right-wing leaders that originated in the United States and is deliberating for the first time in Buenos Aires with the participation of Milei, former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, and Vox leader from Spain, Santiago Abascal, among others.
«Argentina is showing the world what is possible,» said Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump. «With the United States we are together, two nations ready to escape the politics of failure. «Two peoples united in the fight for freedom.»
The leader also highlighted the state adjustment plan that Milei carried out in the first year of government and said it will serve as inspiration for the modernization that billionaire Elon Musk will undertake as head of the new Department of Governmental Efficiency of the United States.
«Milei eliminated dozens of government agencies and official dependencies and fired dozens of public employees. In the United States we now have Elon Musk… we will do the same. Let’s throw this bureaucracy out the window. As Trump says, «you’re fired,» added the President-elect’s daughter-in-law. «Let’s make Argentina and America great again,» she concluded.
In what he described as «the greatest adjustment in history,» Milei halted the issuance of currency, eliminated ministries, fired thousands of public employees, cut subsidies, and halted public works, among other measures, to put an end to a large fiscal deficit inherited from the previous center-left populist administration and allowed inflation to slow down to 2.7% monthly in October, the lowest reading in three years.
Meanwhile, Bolsonaro sent a recorded message when Brazil’s justice system confiscated his passport as part of the trial he faces for the January 2023 coup attempt.
«It’s a persecution with this coup story. That didn’t happen. That’s not true, I have always followed the rules. I hope this is clarified,» said the far-right former president, who also had words of praise for Milei.
«He showed the world that he came to change Argentina,» he noted. «Congratulations for the economy, for the measures taken. «Argentina is a country projecting itself to the world.»
At the same time, he expressed confidence that Trump’s arrival in power will help his cause and lamented that he will not be able to attend his inauguration until the judges return his passport.
«We will win when Trump arrives, freedom will prevail in the rest of America,» Bolsonaro concluded.
On his part, Spanish Abascal also described the electoral victories of Milei and Trump as «two important victories for the free world» and said that now it is our turn to «contribute from Europe.»
«Patriotic and anti-globalist forces are winning big in the European Union. «We live in a fortunate time and opportunities to stop globalism and socialism,» said the Spanish leader.
Milei will be responsible for closing the event at 22:00 GMT.
