Laboratorio de ciberseguridad ‘pionero’ en España abre en León

Escrivá ha mencionado que en España «only two laboratories of this type» exist, both located in León, one of which is managed by the University of León in collaboration with the technology company Huawei, in addition to the one that was inaugurated today.

«With this new tool, INCIBE will be able to work with companies and verify that the devices we use comply with the European Cyber Resilience Regulation,» explained the minister.

This new laboratory will also allow us to «experimentally test» how the different types of devices used in everyday life, increasingly connected to the Internet, such as what we call the Internet of Things, will comply with the standards and regulations established by an already active European regulation.

Therefore, the Minister of Digital Transformation admitted that he is «very happy» that INCIBE has been able to deploy this laboratory so quickly, which will be a national reference in the fight against the abusive use that can be made of certain elements to put security at risk.

The minister also inaugurated the ninth edition of the ‘Cybersecurity Summer Bootcamp’ on Monday, an event he described as an «international benchmark» in the field, which, coupled with the opening of this laboratory, turns León into a world center for cybersecurity topics.

On the other hand, the director general of INCIBE, Félix Barrio, reported the hiring of 13 people who will make up the staff of this new laboratory, although they expect «growing demand» due to the growth of this market, following the approval in March of last year of the Cyber Resilience Regulation.

Félix Barrio stated that he «hoped» to have the bidding for the second tower of the headquarters of the Cybersecurity Institute ready «by the end of the summer» and that additional works would begin «early next year.»

The director of INCIBE emphasized that the expansion of their facilities «will allow them to assume all the capabilities» that the Cybersecurity Institute «acquires» thanks to the Transformation, Recovery, and Resilience Plan.

According to Barrio, this research center will allow «monitoring a growing market of thousands and thousands of devices connected to the Internet» and its success will depend, in part, on «the response that manufacturers and distributors» give to this service.

On his part, José Luis Escrivá reviewed the activity of INCIBE and highlighted the «vision» that the Government had in 2007 to «create a center of this nature, which would be an international benchmark and continuously surpass itself.»

The minister claimed «the role of INCIBE in the National Cybersecurity Strategy» and in the new strategy on artificial intelligence since «artificial intelligence can be used in the field of cybercrime.»

The Minister visited the complex of the Institute in León where he was able to see the work that will be carried out in these new facilities with a demonstration by the technicians who will work in the new Cybersecurity Laboratory.
