La «Operación Copérnica» resulta en mayor confiscación de heroína en 2021
The latest drug trafficking operation in Owense, known as «Operation Copernicus,» has led to the «largest confiscation» of heroin this year. Specifically, ten raids were carried out in homes in the Outenonsano neighborhood of Covadonga, where 3 kilograms of heroin, 700 grams of cocaine, and 450 grams of a substance colloquially known as «rebuJito» were seized, consisting of a mixture of cocaine and heroin, as well as 300 grams of hashish.
In addition to the seized drugs, 17,000 euros in cash were also confiscated, mostly in coins and low-value bills, as explained by the National Police. This money is associated with the «retail» of narcotic substances and is considered «tools» for drug trafficking.
The Chief of the National Police in Galicia, Pedro Pacheco, declared on Monday that the operation was the result of extensive research and investigation that required many hours of work from both men and women in the National Police. He emphasized the importance of the operation and the dedication of the law enforcement officers involved.
The operation involved a police operation last Wednesday, where specialized units of the National Police, coordinated by the Narcotics Group of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of the Ourense Provincial Police Station, arrested fifteen individuals. This operation focused on key locations in Owense, resulting in the arrest of fifteen people and the search of ten houses.
During a press conference, Pacheco explained that the suspects attempted to dispose of the drugs when they realized the presence of law enforcement. The confiscated substances will be sent to pharmacy laboratories for quantitative and qualitative analysis to determine their composition and potential impact.
The estimated value of the seized drugs suggests that they could be transformed into approximately 42,000 individual doses for consumption. The drug enforcement team highlighted the challenges they faced in accessing the houses used for drug storage and distribution, noting the high level of security measures in place.
According to the government delegate, «Operation Copernicus» is one of the most significant operations in Galicia, leading to the dismantling of 50% of the drug retail market in the region. This successful operation demonstrates the consistent and discreet work of the National Police in combating drug trafficking.
The investigation that led to this operation began in April 2021 and is the result of previous research and operations, as well as the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and citizens to prevent crime in the region.
