In this context, Japan found the final element to achieve decarbonization: hydrogen. But not just any hydrogen: Turquoise hydrogen. In the framework of decarbonization, there is much talk about hydrogen as an energy vector, due to its ability to replace other polluting fuels.
The most well-known is green hydrogen due to its production of renewable energy. However, there are other types of hydrogen that can reduce emissions, including Turquoise hydrogen. The latter has piqued the interest of several entities for its production, which is made from methane without CO2 emissions.
The Japanese company Ebara began researching the main advantages derived from the use of Turquoise hydrogen versus other types of hydrogen. In their reports, they found a clean alternative whose origin lies in methane found in natural gas or biogas.
The participants in the initiative were The National Institute for Materials Science and the University of Shizuoka and Taiyo Koko materials. Additionally, the project is part of The Organization for the Development of New Energies and Industrial Technologies led by the Japanese government.
The company Japan focused their work on methane pyrolysis. In other words, in an attempt to separate hydrogen and solid carbon in various reactors. As a result of this work, a more effective hydrogen can be generated without compromising the quality or quantity of carbon produced.
