Isabel Díaz Ayuso nombrada Dr. Honoris Causa por la Universidad de América

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, was appointed Dr. Honoris Causa on Wednesday by the University of America in Quito (Ecuador) for «leadership and democratic beliefs.»
The ceremony took place during the first day of the institutional visit of the Madrid leader in Ecuador at the study hall of this academic institution, which also granted the same recognition to former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar and Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urutia, among other personalities.
In her speech, Díaz Ayuso emphasized the importance of «leaving people alone» so they can «take risks, make decisions, and hire,» while also criticizing nationalism, socialism, and communism. She condemned their attempts to weaken and deceive, highlighting the need to defend freedom every day.
She also spoke about the unity between public and private sectors, especially during serious moments like the pandemic in Madrid, where both public and private healthcare sectors worked together. She stressed the importance of education, respecting truth, recognizing effort, evaluating, and valuing primary and secondary education.
Díaz Ayuso expressed her pride in leading a flourishing, open, joyful, and entrepreneurial region that serves Spain and is twinned with Latin America. She also mentioned the transformation of Madrid into a global educational destination under her leadership.
Vice President Carlos Emilio Larreátegui praised Díaz Ayuso’s determined and morally profound leadership, highlighting her defense of democratic values and putting human beings at the center of her political activity. He commended her passionate defense of educational freedom and the expansion of Madrid’s boundaries beyond administrative and geographical limits.
In the reading of the University of the Americas in Quito’s appointment law, it was stated that the Board of Regents granted the Dr. Honoris Causa title to the President for his commitment to republican values, political leadership, democratic convictions, and his multiple battles for freedom, justice, and reason.
