El alcalde Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Carmen Álvarez, announced that, as president of Emuremasa, a municipal company responsible for the direct management of the elderly residence, she will appear in the ongoing judicial process to resolve the responsibilities in the management of this entity in recent years, which have not been disclosed in the past.
In a statement to the Municipal Council, Álvarez stated that she has proposed on «up to three occasions» to the board of Emuremasa to open a disciplinary file against the director of the elderly, emphasizing that it was «impossible» to appoint directors chosen by the political parties in favor of an opposition.
«They only had the affirmative vote of the IU councilors, who, according to the mayor, have been from the very beginning in solidarity with the families cooperating with the police and justice, without politicizing some very serious events,» she said.
The board of directors of the company Emuremasa is «the competent body to address this issue and not the full Municipal Council through a special investigative committee,» said the mayor, stating that this would «turn the problem around into a political issue with a very vulnerable situation for the events that took place in the company.»
That is why the president of this municipal company lamented that opposition political groups brought the issue to the full council «in an attempt to politicize the unfortunate events that occurred.»
The mayor personally expressed the «full support» of the family of the alleged affected person, the company’s workers, sharing that what happened is «an extremely serious and unacceptable event» before «making the appropriate efforts, as the case may be.»
Therefore, «everything within their power» is being done to gather all the information and «request the appropriate responsibilities of the general manager in the case,» hence requesting PSOE, PP, and VOX not to hinder the opening of a disciplinary file, which in turn implies an informative file on the situation and the relevant investigation in which the Council is involved, and not in the municipal plenary.
The mayor, who supported the «excellent daily work» of the elderly residence staff, stated that she will «continue to work towards providing this municipal service in Sanlúcar, based on what the population demands and, of course, valuing our elders.»
