The United States has named six drug cartels in Mexico, including those of Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva, as well as the Venezuelan gang in Aragua and the Salvadoran gang MS-13.
The notification issued by Secretary of State Frameal Rubio cites sufficient evidence to identify the groups as a risk to national security, foreign policy, and economic interests.
The document was published in the Federal Register and will take effect this Thursday, following a decree that President Donald Trump signed on his first day.
Meanwhile, the CIA has used drones for surveillance operations in Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Wednesday that there is nothing illegal about it.
«What we have is a collaboration and cooperation that has been happening for many years, not just now.»
The designation as a terrorist organization prevents its members from being admitted to the United States and also allows for expulsion from the country.
Trump has frequently blamed the Aragua train and MS-13 for violent crimes in the United States.
Many of the other designated cartels are drug traffickers in Mexico operating on the southern border.
