España recibe 72.7 millones de euros de Europa para instalación de puntos de recarga eléctricos y promoción de hidrógeno
Specifically, eight commercial projects validated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will receive European assistance to install 589 electric charging points with a power between 150 kW and 350 kW, build 26 green hydrogen charging stations and decarbonate the trans-European transport network. In total, with these subsidies, approximately 400 million euros of investment will be mobilized in Spain to promote sustainable and low transport.
The eight projects involve the participation of Spanish companies and other European Union (EU) countries and will serve to increase stations for recharging and supplying small alternative emissions. Some of them with ICO collaboration:
- 589 electric charging points with a power between 150 kW and 350 kW and 26 hydrogen charging stations between 300 bar and 700 bar will be installed in the Spanish passenger network.
- In the field of port and maritime, proposals are selected for the electrification of terminals located in the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Gijón, the development of infrastructure for supplying ammonia in the port of Algeciras, and for supplying methanol in the methanol Port of Huelva.

This call dedicated to the financing of alternative fuels was published on February 29, 2024; With a fund of 780 million euros in the general framework that initiatives can access in Spain, with three discounts to submit proposals. The European Commission has opened the second cut of this AFF call with a submission period until June 11, 2025. Proposals submitted with investments in Spain must request compliance after the procedure described by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The mechanism connects Europe
The assistance from the Connect Europe (CEF) mechanism is granted in a competitive agreement, so that the selected projects are those that have met the highest criteria, such as impact, relevance, maturity or catalytic effect of the funds. Potential beneficiaries of these funds are institutions or companies established in any of the countries of the European Union, which can occur individually or in a group, as well as certain international organizations related to the infrastructure and transport sector.
Infrastructure projects for alternative fuels subsidized with AFIF funds can obtain complementary financing from the Official Credit Institute (ICO), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and other national promotion organizations, which will act as implementing partners of AFIF, facilitating these operations.
